Hanifa Abubakar is a 5-year-old Kano girl who was reportedly abducted and killed by her school teacher, Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko after collecting a ransom of 6 Million Naira.

The accused reportedly abducted the victim at Kawaji, in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the stateĀ on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

According to Daily Nigerian, the incident occurred at 5 pm, on Saturday, December 4, when she and other neighbourhood children were returning from an Islamic school.

According to the account of some children who witnessed the incident, the kidnappers offered to hitchhike them in a commercial tricycleĀ to their homes.

After dropping them off, they then asked Hanifa to enter again for an extra ride and then zoomed off with her.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest of the accused in a statement on Thursday, January 20, said that Tanko, the proprietor of a private school, poisoned the child to death on December 18, after she recognized him.

He then conspired with one Hashim Isyaku and buried her body in a shallow grave located at the private school premises in Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa LGA.

Tanko and Hashim were however arrested around Zaria Road in Kano last Wednesday while attempting to collect the second tranche of the ransom.

Family sources stated that Abdulmalik Tanko, the accused was among the first set of people who came to sympathizeĀ with her parents after the abduction.

Uncle of the girl, Suraj Sulaiman, told Daily Nigerian that Tanko shed tears when he visited Hanifa’s parents to console them over the abduction.

“He was full of tears when he visited the family to console them over the abduction,ā€ said Sulaiman.

The suspects led a combined team of operatives of DSS Kano State, Kano State Police Commandā€™s Medical Team and Team of Operation Puff Adder to where they buried the body.

Hanifa’s body was exhumed and taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital Kano, examined and confirmed dead by a medical doctor and release to the relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa also noted that the case will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
