GOLDEN COMPASS EVA GREEN
The Golden Compass is a 2007 fantasy adventure film based on Northern Lights, the first novel in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Written and directed by Chris Weitz, it stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Eva Green and Ian McKellen. The project was announced in February 2002, but difficulties over the script and the selection of a director led to significant delays. At $180 million, it was one of the most expensive projects ever made by New Line Cinema, and its disappointing results in the United States contributed to the restructuring of New Line in February 2008.
The film depicts the adventures of Lyra Belacqua, an orphan living in a parallel universe where a ruling dogmatic power called the Magisterium opposes free inquiry. The children of this universe are kidnapped by an unknown group called the Gobblers, backed by the Magisterium. Lyra joins a tribe of sailors on a journey to the Far North, the land of armored polar bears, in search of missing children.
The story takes place on an alternate Earth dominated by a powerful church called the Magisterium which strictly controls the beliefs and teachings of the people. In this world, each person’s inner spirit partially exists outside of their body, manifesting as an animal companion called a demon. The dæmon communicates with the person and must remain in physical proximity. Witches, however, have bird-like demons that can travel long distances from their bodies.

- Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, Lyra’s strict and mysterious adventurer uncle. In July 2006, it was reported that Paul Bettany was in talks to play the role.

EVA GREEN QUOTES
- I’m not really involved in politics… I live in my cocoon with my classical music.
- I’m worried because of my mom, she’s going to see my performance and she’s pretty tough. She will see me naked. And my dad, Woah. Yeah, they gon’ see me as a woman, you know?
- Everyone wants to work in America. Maybe not blockbusters or Terminator, but to have the choice.
- My mother made New Wave films, but I was quite shocked that I didn’t know much about that period. Bernado showed us a film about the protests at the time.
- My father is Swedish and my mother is French.
- Success is very short-lived. You are entirely dependent on the desire of others, which makes it difficult to relax.
- I will need my whole life to refine my art.
- I’m French so I’m lazy enough to exercise and I smoke. But I love going for a morning run with my dog. That’s all.
- A lot of movies now are more about the visuals than the actors. I think all directors should go to drama school.
- I’m a day dreamer. Seriously, I live on another planet.
- Hmm, in the limelight… No, I’m neither Sienna Miller nor Angelina Jolie. I’m very lucky and happy, but I still find it very difficult to get good scripts and good roles. It really is a jungle out there.
- I rarely go to parties. If I really have to, I’ll go, but I’m not the most open person, which sometimes isn’t the best quality.
- I also liked Daniel Craig. He is unlike any other Bond. So we’ll see. In 10 years I might be cursed for doing it, but I’m so grateful for what it did for me.
