Erin Colton was born to her parents as Erin Ashley Colton on Saturday, May 15, 1982 in Long Island, New York, USA. But she did not grow up where she was born. She grew up in Wantagh, New York with her friends and siblings. Since her childhood, Erin Colton had a great interest in sports. She was also a player for the Wantagh Warriors of Wantagh High School varsity basketball, tennis, and lacrosse teams.

Erin Colton attended Syracuse University for a degree in communications from the Newhouse School of Communications in the fall of 2000. After graduating in 2004, she began her career in television and media as a production assistant at News 12 Long Island. . Not limited to that, she began covering sports as well for her sister station, MSG Varsity, after graduating as a sportscaster and reporter.
Erin Colton’s deep interest in sports can be seen vividly through her effort to coach a junior girls’ basketball team in her homeland of Long Island.
For her series titled Iron Inspiration, Erin Colton won a 2010 New York Emmy Award in the Sports Series category. The Erin Colton series told the story of a Long Island man who overcame his addiction to drugs and alcohol by training for triathlons.
