Goodbye to a professional, a good comedian, rather unknown, but who took care of a garden for Alejandro Amenábar himself. In fiction, of course.

Eric Sykes. His name doesn’t sound like much. He was a secondary. But fans of Alejandro Amenábar ‘s movies , and especially of the supernatural thriller The Others , will remember Mr. Edmund Tuttle, a sinister-looking old man who took care of the garden of the mansion where the story takes place. And maybe they even noticed another one of his gardeners in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . British comedian Eric Sykes passed away yesterday July 4 at the age of 89.

Eric Sykes was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England, on May 4, 1923. His entertainment skills were demonstrated while serving in the army during World War II. He knew what it was like to be poor at the beginning of his career. Although he started in show business writing comedy scripts for radio programs, he saw that he could also interpret what he wrote, that is, be an actor. His career continued overcoming an ear problem; Curiously, he wore glasses without lenses, because this allowed him to hear better. For more than 50 years he wrote extensively for vaudeville, radio, film and television shows, collaborating with comedians such as Peter Sellers . The BBC would be one of his usual places of work and would be involved in the promotion of the famous Teletubbies. In cinema, she coincided with Sellers in the comedy Heaven Above (1963), and with Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot in the western Shalako (1968).

Married 60 years ago, on Valentine’s Day, to Edith Eleanore Milbrandt, he has four children, two of whom work in the world of cinema.
