Origins and family history

On the social level, the family offers the perfect example of “without fault”, with a successful ascent in three generations and which the last offspring is in the process of perfecting, to a level which its ancestors could not have dreamed of…

In Picardy, the roots could not be more classic, with the essential peasants of the towns of the Somme and legions of workers and craftsmen

d’Abbeville (cabinetmakers, shoemakers, saddlers, etc.). Only a few picturesque surnames sometimes bring a note of fantasy, like Nibart or even this line of Bosseur, encountered in the Aisne, whose genes their workaholic descendant may have recovered.

The Macrons have their roots in the village of Authie, between Amiens and Arras, where we can trace their affiliation to Philippe Macron, born around 1610. An ordinary peasant, whose descendants would become craftsmen, joiners then carpenters, until at the end of the 19th century  one of them was found to be a labourer.

But, at the Macron, we are able to bounce back, perhaps thanks to a few drops of foreign blood, a great-grandmother married after the Great War to an Englishman established as a butcher in Abbeville. The handicap will therefore be traced back in two generations, with in the end our couple of disciples of Hippocrates.

Little known facts

  • An excellent pianist (3rd prize at the Conservatoire d’Amiens) and nicknamed “the Mozart of the Élysée”, Emmanuel Macron also masters the tango and practices French boxing, tennis and football.
  • An excellent student, he already knows Greek and Latin roots in 6th grade and says he “really read” Aristotle and Plato. “Not quite careful and with a hell of a hair on his head”, he won the general French competition at sixteen, while missing Normale sup.
  • Macron met his future wife while being a student at the institution where she is a French-Latin teacher. Captivated by his talents, she never ceases to cite him as an example and finds him in the theater team, where he asks her to write a play with him, to announce to her at seventeen that he will marry her, come what may.

  • On weekends, he likes to walk with her along the quays and have lunch at the restaurant, while trying to go and recharge his batteries once a month in their home in Le Touquet.
