Emma Cohen
Emma Cohen died on Monday, July 11, at the age of 69, as a result of cancer that had been hidden from almost everyone. The event coincides with the revival of “Bruja, más que bruja” (1976), where she was directed by Fernando Fernán Gómez, who was her partner for many years, until the interpreter’s death.
Born in Barcelona on November 21, 1946, she studied Law, but dropped out before finishing. Witness of May 1968 in Paris, she began working as an interpreter within the Teatro Español Universitario (TEU). She is an anarchist and pizpireta, she broke up with her family, but she became very popular in cultural circles for her sense of humor. On stage, she performed titles such as “Marat-Sade”, together with Adolfo Marsillach .
He made his film debut with Tuset Street , by Jorge Grau , one of the most representative titles of the Barcelona School. But then she turned to more commercial titles. She met the man in his life, Fernando Fernán Gómez , in 1970, during the filming of Growing Leg, Waning Skirt , by Javier Aguirre . With the iconic actor, writer, and director, he shot the series El pícaro , where he worked as a screenwriter, and Juan Soldado, and in the feature films Mambrú se fue a la guerra (1986), El viaje a nuevo parte (1986) and El mar y el time (1989).
On television, Emma Cohen donned the Gallina Caponata costume from Sesame Street, which became very popular. She also made a career as an actress, since she debuted with the novel “The whole house was a window”, from 1983, followed by titles like “Love magic for desperate men and women”. Her last work in the cinema was El abuelo , where she was directed by José Luis Garci , again with Fernan Gómez. Since his death, in 2007, she lived retired from the profession.
