The incident took place around 8:00 a.m. on August 27, 2019, at her parents’ home in Keeling, Virginia. A neighbor called 911 to report the shots he heard.
Soon, the police arrived at the scene and saw the horrible scene. Joan’s body lay in the driveway. Later, they entered the house and found the deceased bodies of Emily and Cullen.
Matthew Thomas Bernard was charged with the triple homicides and is a close relative of all three victims. The 19-year-old killer was arrested around 12:15 p.m. after an intense manhunt. Someone told police that they saw a naked boy armed with a rifle running into the wooded area.
According to Lifestylepedia, the Pittsylvania Sheriff’s Office, Bernard faces three counts of murder. He also faces weapons possession charges. Matthew will appear in court for his first court appearance on Friday, i.e. August 30, 2019.
