Elaine Stewart was a popular model and actress in the 50s. She worked with big stars like Gene Kelly, Kirk Douglas or Richard Widmark. Stewart passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at her Beverly Hills home after a long illness. She was 81 years old.

Born on May 31, 1929 in Montclair, New Jersey, Elsy Steinberg –her real name– was the daughter of a police officer and a woman dedicated to her work. As a young woman, she worked as an usher in small theaters, until she gets signed as a model. Her photogenicity did not go unnoticed by Metro Goldwyn Mayer executives, who offer her a permanent contract. Thus, she makes her debut with a small role in What a pair of sailors , a comedy starring Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin .

He also makes a small appearance in Singin’ in the Rain . She began to stand out in Captives of Evil, as an aspiring actress, along with Kirk Douglas , and was Anne Boleyn, in The Virgin Queen . Her most remembered role was that of Jane, fiancée of Gene Kelly ‘s character , in the mythical Brigadoon .

Later he appeared in successful films such as The last bullet , or The law of the underworld . In the 60’s he focused on playing roles in television series like Perry Mason or The Third Man .

Married to producer Merri Heater, in 1964 she retired from acting to devote herself to caring for her two children.
