Eid-el-Kabir to hold July 20- Sultan of Sokoto Announces
Tuesday July, 20 has been announced as Muslim Eid-el-kabir day celebration in Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
He said that Sunday, July 11, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH, which means that the Eid-el-Kabir will fall on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH, which is July 20, 2021.
Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto also signed a statement announcing the sighting of the moon
“On Saturday, the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs received reports on the sighting of the crescent of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH in collaboration with the National Moon Sighting Committee.
The statement reads, “The Sultan approved the report and accordingly announced Sunday, July 11 as the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH.”
Dhul-Hijja is the Islamic calendar’s 12th month, during which Muslims do the ajj (Holy Pilgrimage) and observe the Sacrifice Festival.
The federal government is likely to issue a formal public holiday declaration soon.
