Egbetokun appointed as the new Abuja AIG

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, in commitment to his policing agenda, has approved the deployment of Olukayode Egbetokun as the new Assistant Inspector General, Zone 7, Abuja.

Egbetokun, a graduate of mathematics at the University of Lagos and who also holds the masters of science degree in Engineering Analysis also from the same university, A Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University and MBA degree from Lagos State University.

He has served in several commands and held several sensitive positions within the Force including postings as Commander Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, 2005 to 2007, Squadron Commander 5 PMF Benin, Benin City, OC anti-fraud FCT Command, CSP “A” Lagos State Command, Area Commander Oshogbo, Osun State, Area Commander Gusau Zamfara State, Commandant Police Traning School, Ikeja, Lagos, Deputy Commandant, Police College, Ikeja, CP Servicom, FHQ Abuja, CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal, CP Kwara State Command.

He was until his present promotion and posting, the Commissioner of Police (Administration) Medical, Falomo Lagos. He has also attended several courses locally and internationally.

Egbetokun promised to work harmoniously with the commissioners of police and other relevant stakeholders within the zone to scale up service delivery.

He pledged total commitment to the ideals of modern policing, noting that quality policing should not only be made available but must be made accessible to all citizens while laying emphasis on restoring and boosting the confidence

“I will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that adequate measures are in place both covertly and overtly to protect lives and properties within the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Inspector general of police Usman Baba has said that the All Progressive Congress Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has no pending petition or criminal matters with the police, over alleged certificate forgery.

This is contained in a counter affidavit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Usman’s counsel, Mr. Wisdom Madaki.

He told the court that since the APC presidential candidate was not a suspect in any case, there was no reason for the police to put him on trial.

However, the IGP, in the legal process filed through his lawyer, Wisdom Madaki, said he was aware of two different petitions from the group, requesting Tinubu’s arrest and prosecution over alleged perjury and certificate forgery.

He explained that the two petitions were predicated on allegations that the Supreme Court decided in 2002, in a suit filed by the late foremost human rights activist,  Gani Fawehinmi.

The IGP argued that since the alleged perjury and certificate forgery had been resolved by the apex court, there was no need for police to reopen the matter again.
