EFCC grills ex-Gov. Lucky Igbinedion over N1.6 billion fraud

Lucky Igbinedion, the former governor of Edo State was questioned by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday over N1.6 billion fraud.
According to Peoples Gazette, the questioning was in respect of a criminal diversion of public funds to the tune of N1.6 billion.
The former governor, who arrived at the headquarters of the EFCC, at Jabi, Abuja, around 2:00 p.m., on Thursday was still being quizzed as of midnight.
Recall that shortly after his exit as governor in 2007, Mr Igbinedion was prosecuted by the EFCC and convicted for corruption. However, this new investigation was based on fresh evidence against him.
A source said that the former governor diverted a loan obtained by the Edo State Government to finance an investment during his tenure, to settle the financial indebtedness of a company in which he had an interest.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC spokesperson, confirmed the invitation of the former governor but declined further comment.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has conveyed his congratulatory message to the governor-elect of Anambra, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, describing him as a man whose academic profile stands to benefit the state.
“Prof Soludo’s experience as a consummate economist will be of great asset to the good people of Anambra, Southern Governors’ Forum, and indeed the entire country.
