Edith scob
She worked for seven decades, and was considered a legend of French cinema. Édith Scob she passed away at the age of 81 on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, in Paris, at the age of 81.
Born on October 21, 1937, in the French capital, Édith Helena Vladimirovna Scobeltzine came from a family of Russian emigrants. She suffered from anorexia when she was fourteen years old. She subsequently became fond of literature, and her interest in the theater was piqued. She was studying French Philology at the Sorbonne when she was recruited to take part in a theatrical performance of “Don Juan” by Henry de Montherlant. On stage, she caught the attention of Georges Franju , who decided to give her her first film role, in the drama Head Against the Wall .
The filmmaker was so pleased with the work of Édith Scob , that he would sign her again for Los ojos sin rostro , Relato intimate , Judex , Thomas, the impostor, and the Cinéma 16 series . He also worked under the orders of other great filmmakers, such as Luis Buñuel , in The Milky Way , Jean Becker , in Murderous Summer , Jacques Rivette , in Joan of Arc II, the Prisons or Julien Duvivier , in The Burning Chamber .
Married to the composer Georges Aperghis , the couple had two children, Alexander and Jerome. Both are dedicated to writing.
In the last years of his career, the peculiar Leos Carax took advantage of him , in Los amantes del Pont-Neuf –with music by the aforementioned Aperghis, the actress’s husband– and Holy Motors , and Raoul Ruiz , in The Suspended Vocation , and La comedia of innocence , among others. She also appeared in French cinema hits, such as Venus, beauty salon , The pact of the wolves , Vidocq , and in Mia Hansen-Løve ‘s The Future .
