College Days
Jordan went to Rutgers University from 1973 to 1977. He was a physical education student but didn’t finish his degree. Jordan helped Rutgers reach the 1976 NCAA Final Four, where he won the East Regional MVP title. At Rutgers, he got the nickname “Fast Eddie.” In his last year, Jordan was named honorable mention All-America, and he set Rutgers’ all-time records for assists (585) and steals (220).
NBA Start
Early in his NBA career, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Jordan in the second round of the 1977 NBA draft (33rd overall). He joined the New Jersey Nets halfway through his first season. In 1978–1979, Jordan tied with Norm Nixon (Los Angeles Lakers) for the most steals with 201. He ranked second in steals with 223 in 1979–80, behind Micheal Ray Richardson of the New York Knicks, who had 265 steals.
Later NBA Days
During the 1980–81 season, Jordan played for the Los Angeles Lakers and was part of the 1982 NBA Championship team. He spent four years with the Lakers and had a short stint with the Portland Trail Blazers. Jordan retired from the NBA after the 1983–84 season.
