Early in his NBA career, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Jordan in the second round of the 1977 NBA draft (33rd overall). He joined the New Jersey Nets halfway through his first season. In 1978–1979, Jordan tied with Norm Nixon (Los Angeles Lakers) for the most steals with 201. He ranked second in steals with 223 in 1979–80, behind Micheal Ray Richardson of the New York Knicks, who had 265 steals.

Later NBA Days
During the 1980–81 season, Jordan played for the Los Angeles Lakers and was part of the 1982 NBA Championship team. He spent four years with the Lakers and had a short stint with the Portland Trail Blazers. Jordan retired from the NBA after the 1983–84 season. In his seven-year NBA career, he averaged 8.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.82 steals per game.

Coaching Career

Eddie Jordan had a long career as a basketball coach. After retiring from playing in the NBA in 1984, he started as a volunteer assistant coach at Rutgers University. He then moved to Old Dominion University and later to Boston College as an assistant coach. He also returned to Rutgers as an assistant coach in 1988.

In 1992, Jordan became an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. He later became the head coach for a short time but was let go after the 1997–98 season.
