Ed helms
Some people are afraid to visit the dentist. But if this one is as funny as Ed Helms in The Hangover , that’s supposed to change things. The southern actor has been carving out a promising career as a comedian… and he doesn’t abuse grimaces on top of that!
Edward Paul Helms was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, on January 24, 1974. Very close to his parents and brother, he underwent surgery for a heart murmur at the age of 14. He studied at Westminster Schools, where he developed his musical talents – he plays guitar, banjo and piano – while appearing in a couple of humorous theatrical productions. He started studying geology in college, but apparently thought better of it, as he ended up graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in film technology and theory; He also did an exchange semester at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
It was in New York that he would start his career as a comedian, conceiving sketches and training in the difficult art of improvisation, at the Upright Citizens Brigade. His technical knowledge allowed him to earn an income working in editing, and his acting skills helped him be used as a narrator voice in certain products. From there to him recording commercials there was only one step that he immediately took.
When it came to acting as a comedian on the screens, he started with the little one, joining a satirical news program in 2002. He didn’t do badly because NBC thought he would be a good cast for The Office , where he joined Steve Carell and company in the third season of the popular TV series; Currently his name appears in the opening credits, which gives an idea of how his Andy Bernard character has grown in entity. Interestingly, Andy’s a cappella hobby is also Ed Helms’.
He has also been on TV, in small roles, in the series Children’s Hospital and Arrested Development . And of course, like any son of an acting neighbor, you had to try the cinema, and Ed Helms launched himself there. Carell, who for that was a friend and colleague at The Office, gave him a small opportunity with a nod to his previous occupation by giving him a journalist character in I’m Still Like God (2007). Others in the funny business gave him opportunities: Judd Apatow in Dewey Cox: A Long Hard Life , Will Ferrell in Semi-Pro. A team of balls (2008), Eddie Murphy in Caught in a crazy(2008). Yes, they were very silly movies, but little by little the big break was preparing, The Hangover (2009) and its 2011 sequel, where his dentist’s pupae with a hidden wild vein caused a lot of laughs, and it worked wonders. at the box office, also in the second film with his amazing tattoo and his Thai girlfriend. Things have gone so well that he finally got the opportunity to star in a film, Cedar Rapids Convention (2011), about that surreal world of business conventions, where anything can happen behind the serious appearance of that type of events. He has also written a Civil War time travel script with Jake Fleisher, A Whole New Hugh.. and everything indicates that his friends Apatoy and Carell will help him turn it into a movie.
