He was one of the first black actors in the UK to play major roles in film and television. Earl Cameron died on July 3, 2020 at the age of 102 “in the quiet of his home surrounded by his wife and his family,” according to his agent.

Born on August 8, 1917, in Pemdroke (Bermuda Islands). Earlstom Jerusalem Cameron served in his youth in the British Army. He later settled in London, where he had great difficulty finding employment, so he had to take whatever came his way. Through a friend, he landed a role in the play “Chu Chin Chow,” where he was recruited because his Bermuda accent sounded the same as American to British audiences. He made his film debut in 1951 with a brief role in Pool of London .

Over six decades, Earl Cameron accumulated secondary roles in series and feature films such as Simba, the fight against the Mau-Mau ,  Odongo ,  Tarzan the vigilante ,  Thunderball , which belongs to the James Bond saga, or The interpreter . After the death in 1994 of his first wife, Barbara Cameron, with whom he had six children, he married Barbara Cameron, who has accompanied him to the end. He belonged to Bahaism, a minority religious denomination.

He said goodbye to the cinema after a brief appearance in Origin (2010), by Christopher Nolan . In 2009 he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
