Dylan O’Brien
Born on August 26, 1991, Dylan O’Brien, a New Yorker, could be applied to the saying “the greyhound comes from caste”, since he comes from a clan of film professionals. His father, Patrick O’Brien, has worked as a camera operator on titles such as “Forrest Gump”, while his mother has been a production assistant on films such as “A place in nowhere”.
With this family background, it is not surprising that the boy considered studying Cinematography at the University of Southern California (USC). However, he dropped out of school to try his luck in Los Angeles as an actor. At that time he was lavished with home videos that he posted on YouTube. One of them, in which he appeared singing “Wanabe”, the famous theme song by the Spice Girls, went viral. Thanks to that, he was seen by television producer Scott McCall, who thought he would be ideal for Teen Wolf ., the series he was preparing at that time for MTV. He played Stiles Stilinski, the protagonist’s best friend, a young man bitten by a lycanthrope who becomes one. In the third season he combines his character with that of a nogitsune, an evil creature. For such an effort, the fans of this production were convinced that he would receive an Emmy nomination, so they were greatly disappointed when in the end it did not occur.
Rated by critics, rightly, as the best of this series (for many the only salvageable), Dylan O’Brien became much in demand. He starred in Jon Kasdan ‘s romantic comedy The First Time , during the filming of which he fell in love with his co-star, actress Britt Robertson , with whom he is in a relationship to this day.
He was also a tech expert for Google, on The Fellows , alongside Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson . The biggest break of his career came when he was cast as the lead in The Maze Runner , Thomas, who wakes up forgetful in an elevator that takes him to a strange community of other young people. It adapted a James Dashner novel along the lines of other teen science fiction titles like The Hunger Games . “I loved this character because he faces his own fears,” he explained. “I was interested in playing a guy who doesn’t have any memories, so he can reinvent himself from scratch.”
He recovered the character in The Maze Runner: The Trials , and also in The Death Cradle , during the filming of which he would suffer a spectacular accident. Hit by one of the vehicles used in one scene, he sustained multiple bruises and broken bones. Although he did not fear for his life, his somewhat serious condition forced the postponement of the film’s production.
Once recovered, he was able to finish his work, and also film Black Tide , together with Mark Wahlberg . He embodies a real character, Caleb Holloway, the youngest member of the workers on the wrecked Deepwater Horizon oil rig. He is about to play counterterrorist agent Mitch Rapp in American Assassin , an adaptation of the first novel in the saga about this character, created by Vince Flynn.
