Dwight Howard is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Additionally, he had played as a center during his high school basketball playing career at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. During this period, the NBA champion was eight times All-Star, eight times All-NBA Team honored, five times All-Defensive Team and three times Defensive Player of the Year.

The player was born on December 8, 1985 as Dwight David Howard II in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born as the son of Dwight Sr. and Sheryl Howard, a family with strong athletic connections. Before he was born, his mother had seven miscarriages. He has an American nationality and has followed Christianity since his youth
As for his upbringing, he had attended Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, playing primarily as a power forward. During his senior year of high school, he was widely recognized as America’s top high school basketball player. He was also honored as one of McDonald’s 35 Greatest All-Americans. He opted out of college and announced he would enter the 2004 NBA Draft.
Professional career:
Consequently, in 1995, the Orlando Magic selected him first overall over UConn junior Emeka Okafor. He then finished his rookie season averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds. In 2007, he received his first NBA All-Star selection as a reserve on the Eastern Conference team for the 2007 NBA All-Star Game. From 2012 to 2013, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers after having been traded to Orlando. At the time, he had taken six months off after his back surgery in April.
Howard signed with the Houston Rockets in July 2013 and joined forces with James Harden to form a formidable pair. However, he became an unrestricted free agent in June 2016 after declining his $23 million player option for the 2016-17 season. He then joined for the 2016-17 season with the Atlanta Hawks signing a three-year, $70 million contract. In 2017, he was traded by the Hawks to the Charlotte Hornets as the 31st overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
In 2018, he was first traded to the Brooklyn Nets on July 6 and later signed with the Washington Wizards on July 12. He is playing the 2018-19 season with the Wizards. However, in July 2019 he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies again and in August 2019 the Grizzlies waived him. He returned to play with the Los Angeles Lakers on August 26, 2019 with a signing fee of $2.6 million. In November 2020, he signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers worth $2,564,753. In August 2021, he completed his third stint with the Los Angeles Lakers and currently plays with the team.
