Duncan Henderson
Duncan Henderson, producer of titles such as “Master and Commander”, has died at the age of 72 in Valencia (California), as a result of pancreatic cancer. “We will remember him for his strength of character and great sense of adventure,” Henderson’s family said in a statement. “He was considerate and romantic. He always worked very hard to make his time with his family exceptional. He helped countless people and always did the right thing.”
Born in Culver City, Los Angeles, Duncan Henderson attended UCLA as an undergraduate and later USC to earn a master’s degree in finance. After a brief career as a stockbroker, he was selected by the DGA (Directors Guild of America) training program to be part of its class of 1978. While still an intern, he worked on such titles as American Gigolo and The Door sky .
After becoming a production manager, with Dead Poets Club and Home Alone 2. Lost in New York , Duncan Henderson served as an executive at Fox. Beginning in the 1990s, he served as a producer on titles such as The Perfect Storm , Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone , and Oblivion , among many others. In 2004, he was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World . “It was the highlight of his career,” explains Ian Henderson, his son.
The last film that Duncan Henderson has worked on has been the last installment of Transformers , which has not yet been released. Since 2005 he has been very active as a member of the DGA Board of Directors. “He was always available as a leader, mentor and friend. He gave sage advice alike to award-winning directors and production assistants just starting to make their way in the industry,” explains Lesli Linka Glatter, DGA president, in a statement. “It’s hard to express how much Duncan meant to DGA and his teammates.”
