Biography
Dr. Dre, with the full name Andre Romelle Young, was born in Compton, California on the 18th of February 1965. He is the son of Theodore and Verna Young. His father owned the Romells (the inspiration for Dr. Dre’s middle name) R&B amateur group. Dr. Dre’s parents got married in 1964, separated in 1968, and finally divorced in 1972. After then, his mother remarried Curtis Crayon.
In 1976, Dr. Dre started schooling at the Vanguard Junior High School in Compton but had to transfer to Roosevelt Junior High School due to gang violence. Dr. Dre confirmed that he was raised mainly by his grandmother in the New Wilmington Arms housing project in Compton.
Later on, his mother again, re-married Warren Griffin, and Dr. Dre began rapping under the name Warren G. Soon afterwards, he attended the Centennial High School in Compton during his freshman year in 1979 but transferred to Fremont High School in South Central Los Angeles due to poor grades. Then he attempted to enrol in an apprenticeship program at Northrop Aviation Company but wasn’t admitted due to poor grades. During the rest of his high school years, he resulted to focus on his social life and entertainment.

Career
His inspiration was the Grandmaster Flash song “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel”, Dr. Dre often attended a club. In Eve’s After Dark, he watches many DJs and rappers performing live. Soon afterwards, he became a DJ in the club with the stage name “Dr. J”. He confirmed that the name was inspired by the nickname of Julius Erving who was at the time his favourite basketball player. Dr. Dre later joined the World Class Wreckin’ Cru musical group, which released its debut album in 1985.
In 1986, Dr. Dre founded the Niggz Wit Attitudes (NWA) with Eazy-E and Ice Cube. The group’s breakthrough came following the release of its second album, Straight Outta Compton in 1988.
In 1992, Dr. Dre left NWA and cofounded Death Row Records with Marion Knight. That year his solo debut, The Chronic, introduced the “G-funk” production style, characterized by plodding tempos, synthesizer washes, and copious musical sampling of 1970s funk records.
In 1996, Dr. Dre left Death Row and created Aftermath Records. He also worked as a producer for other artists including Snoop Dogg and Eminem. And in 2000, he bagged the Grammy producer of the year award as a result of his work on Eminem’s Grammy-winning album which he produced.
In the early 21st century, he continued producing through collaborations with artists such as Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and 5o Cent. In 2016, was Dr. Dre induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of NWA. Later in 2022, he appeared with other hip hop stars such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.

As of 2022, Dr. Dre net worth is $820 million. His sources of wealth are his musical career investments and activities. Also in 2008, he released his first brand of headphones, Beats by Dr. Dre. Then in 2009, Hewlett-Packard participated in a deal to bundle Beats by Dr. Dre with some HP laptops and headsets. The deal was announced on October 9, 2009 at a press event.
In 2014, Apple purchased the Beats brand for $3 billion. And soon afterwards, Dr. Dre became an Apple Employee in an executive role and worked with Apple for years.
Philanthropy
In May 2013, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine donated a $70 million in endowments to the University of Southern California. The USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy of Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation was then created as the it is the purpose of the donation. The first class of the academy began in September 2014.
In June 2017, Dr. Dre committed $10 million to the construction of a performing arts centre for the new Compton High School. The project is a partnership between Dr. Dre and the Compton Unified School District.

Personal Life
On the 15th of December 1981, Dr. Dre (16) and his teenage girlfriend, Cassandra Joy Greene (15) had a son, Curtis. Curtis was raised by Cassandra Greene and got to meet his father 20 years later.
In 1982, Dr. Dre and Lisa Johnson had a daughter, La Tanya Danielle Young. And after then, had 2 other daughters. In 1988, Dr. Dre and Jenita Porter had a son, Andre Young Jr. And in 1990, Jenita Porter sued Dr. Dre seeking for $5,000 child support fee per month. Unfortunately, Andre died in 2008 from an overdose of heroin and morphine at his mother’s Woodland Hills home.
Dr. Dre and singer Michel’le got in a relationship from 1987 to 1996. And in 1991, they had a son, Marcel. She was a huge contributor to Ruthless Records and Death Row Records albums.
In 1996, Dr. Dre married Nicole Threatt who was an ex-wife to basketball player, Sedale Threatt. Together, they had a son (Truice in 1997), and a daughter (Truly in 2001).
In 2001, Dr. Dre made a total of $52 million from selling part of his share of Aftermath Entertainment to Interscope Records. With all his prior accumulated wealth, he purchased a $40 million home in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
Dr. Dre is also known for violence against women as several women including his wife have pressed charges against him in the past.
Unfortunately on the 5th of January 2021, Dr. Dre was reported to be suffering a brain aneurysm. He was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s ICU in Los Angeles, California. He received support from stars such as Ellen DeGeneres, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Missy Elliot, and so on. In February of the same year, he was discharged having gone through necessary medical processes.
