After having worked as a junior in numerous films and plays, she became popular with the television sitcoms “Farmacia de Guardia” and “Ay, señor, señor”. The actress Paloma Cela died on March 30, 2019, at the age of 76, after a decade retired from the profession, in a Madrid hospital, where she had been hospitalized for a few days for a cardiovascular problem.
Born on March 4, 1943, María Luisa Cela Molinero, from Madrid, known as Paloma Cela, stood out as a model in her youth, working for the designer Balenciaga, and in commercial campaigns for El Corte Inglés. Her prestige took her to catwalks around the world.
She made her film debut in 1967, with Operación Cabaretera , by Mariano Ozores , who would use her again on several occasions. She lavished herself on popular films, despite her poor quality, such as Susana , or The Book of Good Love . Starting in the 90s, her career focused on the theater, where she took part in plays such as ‘Petra’s Revenge’.
Paloma Cela married the Argentine model and publicist Horacio Suárez Retondo in 1977. She, however, was widowed only two years later, in 1979. She had no children, but she legally adopted Paloma, her goddaughter. In the last stage of her career, she starred in famous series such as Thieves go to the office , Pharmacy on duty , or Uncle Willy .
