Doug Stanhope is an American comedian, actor, writer, political activist, and podcast host best known for dark comedy, blue comedy, political satire, insult comedy, and character comedy.

His early comedy was influenced by Monty Python and National Lampoon. Previously, before doing full-time acting, he worked in borderline legal telemarketing trying to scam people. He then left Worchester for Los Angeles where he lived for six months.

He then moved to Florida, back to Massachusetts in Oceanside California, then to Massachusetts in Idaho and later to Las Vegas. After living in nearly every city and state in the United States, Doug settled in Bisbee, Arizona where he still lives today. Stanhope is known for his heavy drinking and is an avowed drunk. In a 2011 interview, he said the last time he was sober on stage was in 2003. He has also been known to dress in thrift store clothes.
