Doug Ellin

Critic of the Hollywood industry, its artists and the agents that make it up. That’s Doug Ellin, the creator of The Entourage , one of the most extravagant and excessive series of the first decade of the 21st century.

Born on April 6, 1968 in Brooklyn, United States, Douglas Reed Ellin is the son of June and Marvin. During his few years in the cinema he has dedicated himself to writing and directing, although he has not yet carved a niche for himself among the more well-known filmmakers. In his early twenties he moved to Los Angeles. There he studied at the American Film Institute.

It began in the cinema with the comedy of series B Phat Beach (1996). In the film, a young black man takes his father’s car and escapes with his friends to the beach to enjoy the day. Two years later he premiered Bésame idiot , a romantic comedy starring David Schwimmer . It was another failure in his career, which heralded a future with middling movies, but in 2004 Doug surprised the world with the premiere of the series The Entourage . The success was so resounding that he managed to extend it up to eight seasons. Ellin made an acid criticism of the society that works in Hollywood through the figure of Vincent Chase ( Adrian Grenier), a young actor whose star rises or falls after each premiere. The young man is always surrounded by his entourage of friends, and his agent Ari Gold ( Jeremy Piven ), who advise him and live with him a dream life full of money and women. The production features countless hilarious cameos by famous actors and directors. One of the producers is Mark Wahlberg , who Vince’s story is said to be based on.

After the end of the series in 2011, Doug Ellin got down to work to write and direct the adaptation for the big screen, which would be released in the summer of 2015 with the title of Entourage (The entourage) . In it, the creator continued along the same line where he left the story of Vince and his boys, although in a somewhat more concise and insipid way since many characters lost strength.

On the other hand, Ellin was married to Melissa Dana Hecht, with whom he has a son.
