Don rickles
He was one of the most popular comedians in the United States for his aggressive style of humor, in addition to appearing in feature films such as “Casino” and “Kelly’s The Violent”. Don Rickles passed away at the age of 90 from kidney failure on April 6, 2017.
Born on May 8, 1926 in Queens, the New York suburb, Donald Jay Rickles fought as a sailor in World War II, after which he studied Dramatic Art at the American Academy, a well-known institution in his hometown. Although at the end he achieved small roles in television series, such as The Addams Family , he did not get continuous income, so he was encouraged to launch himself into comedy in live shows.
He ended up becoming an insult comedian by responding to rude viewers who interrupted his show with hurtful comments, but this was more successful than his jokes, so he ended up promoting them. One day he went to see him at a Miami bar, Frank Sinatra himself, whom he put to the boil during his performance, commenting that he had just seen Pride and Passion , and that he had only liked “the interpretation of the cannon ”. The singer and actor was so amused that he sponsored him to perform in Las Vegas, performed with him on numerous occasions, and suggested numerous celebrities to come to the show to be literally bullfighted. In fact, he entered the stage accompanied by the bullfighter pasodoble “La Virgen de la Macarena”.
In movies, he stood out as the opportunistic supply sergeant “Crapgame”, one of the rogue soldiers who join Clint Eastwood to get Nazi gold bars in Kelly ‘s Rogues . Following the film, he starred in his own television series, The Don Rickles Show , and CPO Sharkey . Already at the end of his career, he took part in various TV Movies and some films, such as Fresh Blood (An insatiable girl) , and Casino , by Martin Scorsese , where he was the director of a gambling hall. In addition, he was the voice in the United States of Mr. Potato , a popular character from Toy Storyand its two sequels, characterized by its insolence.
Married since 1965 to Barbara Rickles, who was with him at the time of his death, Don Rickles leaves behind two children and several grandchildren. The death of this icon shocked or Hollywood, to the point that Tom Hanks described him as “a god.”
