Biography
Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy is born on the 26th of November 1982, he hails from Umuahia, Abia state, Nigeria. His father is from Isoko delta state and his mother is an Igbo princess from Abia State. His father is a member of the Isoko people.
Don Jazzy’s family moved to Ajegunle Lagos where he was raised, he attended the co-educational high school, Federal Government College Lagos. At the early stage of 12, Don Jazzy found interest in music and began to play the bass guitar and piano, he also went further to gain knowledge of traditional and percussion instruments.
Don Jazzy enrolled in business management and studied at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state.
In 2000, Jazzy’s uncle invited him to play the drums for a local church in London and that was his first visit to London. Don Jazzy gained employment at McDonald’s as a security guard. He continued his interest in music, associating with Solek, JJC Skillz, Kas, Jesse Jagz, The 419 Squad and D’Banj.
Musical Career
His career in the Music Industry came into the public with the Mo-hits records. Don Jazzy co-founded Mo-hits Records with Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as Dbanj. The Mo-hits records did a couple of songs that made hits in the music industry.
Other members of the Mo-hits records include Wande Coal, D’prince, and Dr sid, the Mo-hits group is now obsolete. The end of Mo-hits was the beginning of something bigger as this fathered Don Jazzy’s personal record label Mavin Records which was established on 8th May 2012.
He sired the new and functional Mavin Records and signed new artists including Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Dija and Iyanya in addition to old artists from the defunct Mo’Hits ( Wande Coal, D’Prince and Dr SID).
On the 8th of May, he released an album featuring all the artists signed to mavin records and it had massive hits like (Amarachi, forever, oma ga, banana, chocolate and the mavin anthem ‘I am a mavin’). Jazzy also launched a social network platform called the mavin league to promote the label.
On the 5th of November 2014, Don Jazzy and Wande Coal had a conflict which saw the exit of Wande Coal from the Mavin family. Don Jazzy has worked hard to become the most outstanding producer in Africa, he is here to stay and will keep producing massive hits.
