O’Riordan was raised in a Roman Catholic family and her mother was a devout Catholic who chose to name her daughters in reference to the Lady of Seven Sorrows.
O’Riordan was the youngest of nine children born to her parents, Eileen O’ Riordan and Terence . Her mother was a school teacher and her father was a farm worker who was unable to work after an accident.

Personal life
On July 18, 1994, O’Riordan married Don Burton who is the former tour manager for Duran Duran, at Holy Cross Abbey. They share three children, Taylor Baxter Burton and Molly Leigh Burton and Dakota Rain Burton together.
In 1998, the former couple lived in Kilmallock, County Limerick, but later moved to Howth, County Dublin. They used to spend summers in a log cabin in Buckhorn, Ontario, Canada.
But in 2009, O’Riordan and his family move to Buckhorn permanently. In August 2013, he returned to Ireland again. O’Riordan and Burton ended their 20-year relationship at the end of 2014, citing some irreconcilable differences.
She later found her love in Ol Koretsky, the New York-based record producer who also worked with her on a musical collaboration, DARK. The duo first met during the formation of DARK in early 2015 and eventually fell in love.
Koretsky posted an emotional tribute on the DARK website where he wrote,

Raised in a Catholic family, she admired Pope John Paul II whom she met twice in a row in 2001 and 2002. In 2013, she performed at the annual Vatican Christmas concert at the invitation of Pope Francis.
Controversy
O’Riordan was arrested in November 2014 for air rage on an Aer Lingus flight from New York to Shannon. The charges against O’Riordan were for his verbally and physically abusive behavior towards crew members.
As soon as O’Riordan landed, she was arrested but she resisted and started shouting: ‘I am the Queen of Limerick! I am an icon!. She also reminded them of the value of her taxes and head butted one officer and spat at another.
O’Riordan later arranged a press conference in which she stated that she was stressed from living in New York hotels and that she was distraught over the failure of her marriage. Her case later went to court, but a judge agreed to dismiss all charges on one condition if she apologized in writing to those injured and paid $6,000 into the court treasury.
In May 2017, O’Riordan spoke publicly about her bipolar disorder, confessing that she had been diagnosed since 2015. The same year, her Cranberries members cited her back problem as the reason for canceling the second leg of the group’s European tour. .
By late 2017, O’Riordan said, she was on the mend and was soon performing at private events.
Death
Dolores O’Riordan died at the age of 46 on January 15, 2018, while recording a session in London. Her death was deemed unexpected at the London Hilton hotel on Park Lane in Mayfair. However, the police have not revealed the real reason for her death, but said they did not intend to treat her death as suspicious.
