Biography
Deidra Muriel Roper (DJ Spinderella) was born on the 3rd of August, 1970 and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, United States. DJ Spinderella started singing as a child following her fascination with her father’s record collection. At the age of 14, she began a career as a DJ after learning DJ techniques from her DJ boyfriend in high school. And at the age of 16, she was approached by her classmate with an offer to join an all-female rap group. She auditioned for Hurby “LuvBug” Azor who was then the producer of the group.

Career
DJ Spinderella after her audition, became a member of the Salt-N-Pepa. Prior to her membership, the group’s DJ, Latoya Hanson had missed several rehearsals and group appearances which prompted the group to look out for a replacement. After she was selected, she adopted the name Spinderella and the group’s first album was released. With great support to her career, the Salt-N-Pepa group became one of the most successful female hip-hop acts of all time. DJ Spinderella has produced several songs on the group’s albums. In 1993, she was featured as a rapper on Big Daddy Kane’s album, Looks Like A Job For… on the single, Very Special. In 2002, Salt-N-Pepa disbanded, reformed in 2007, and then fired DJ Spinderella in 2019.
From 2003 to 2006, DJ Spinderella worked as a radio personality on the KKBT 100.3 in Los Angeles, co-hosting The BackSpin, a national weekly radio show featuring old-school hip-hop. And she also appeared in several episodes of the VH1 series, The Salt-N-Pepa Show. From September 2010 to March 2011, DJ Spinderella did mid-days at KSOC-94.5 “K-Soul” in Dallas, Texas.
DJ Spinderella is part of the American Diabetes Association Celebrity Cabinet, a TV ONE UnSung Ambassador, a supporter of the Saving Our Daughters Mentoring Program, and also, the founder of the Spinderella DJ Academy.
In 2007, DJ Spinderella acted as DJ for The Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav. On the 23rd of October 2008, the Salt-N-Pepa group performed their hit singles “Shoop”, “Push It”, and “Whatta Man” at the BET Hip Hop Awards. And on May 3, 2019, DJ Spinderella announced via one of her Instagram posts that she was no longer a part of the Salt-N-Pepa group since January of the same year.

In 1992, DJ Spinderella appeared in Stay Tuned and had her daughter, Christy with NBA basketball player, Kenny Anderson. Then in 1996, she appeared in Kazaam. On October 21, 1997, she opened her own beauty studio and this was the same year the Salt-N-Pepa group released their final album, Brand New.
Christy, her daughter appeared in an episode of My Super Sweet 16.
