DJ Quik is an American rapper, DJ, record producer and songwriter best known for his top songs Tonit , Born and Raised in Compton , and Jus Lyke Compton and many others known throughout his career as a hip hop artists who began in 1987 were very popular. However, his notoriety began in 1991 with the release of his debut studio album Quik is the Name , quickly followed by Weise 2 Fonky (1992), Safe + Sound (1995), Rhythm-Al-Ismus (1998), Balance & Options (2000) and Under the Influence (2002). In 2005, DJ Quik was signedMad Science Recordings and released his 7th album titled Trauma and in 2007 formed a hip hop group Die Fixxer featuring rapper AMG on which he rapped as “Quik” instead of “DJ Quik”.

In late 2008 he also teamed up with Snoop Dogg, Teddy Riley and formed a production group QDT . DJ Quik released an album together with rapper Kurupt entitled Blaqkout On April 19, 2011 he released his 8th studio album entitled The Book of David , on which he collaborated with Bun B, Jon B, Dwele, Ice Cube and others . His 9th studio album, The Midnight Life , was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. DJ Quik also collaborated with rapper Problem on his second album together entitled RosecransHe has a loyal following on social media with 500,000+ followers on Instagram, 500,000+ followers on Facebook and 300,000+ followers on Twitter.

DJ Quik released his debut studio album entitled Quik Is The Name on January 15, 1991 under Profile Records label. The album debuted and peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold more than 50k copies in its 1. Four months after its release, on May 30, 1991, it received Gold certification, and four years later, on July 26, 1995, it received Platinum certification. By 2005, the album sold 1.07 million copies.

  1. His interest in music started when he was only 2 years old because his mother had a huge record collection at home which she played often.
  2. Before he turned 12, he was already playing several instruments.
  3. DJ Quik cited inspiration from George Clinton and Roger Troutman, the latter of whom taught him how to use a talk box that later became a hallmark of his sound. He later stopped using the voice box out of respect for Roger.
  4. After receiving a turntable as a gift for his eighth grade PhD, he started selling homemade mixtapes in his neighborhood. One of them was The Bureaucracy , recorded in 1987.
  5. He was a member of the Westside Tree Top Piru, a Bloods Street gang in Compton, California.
  6. DJ Quik named his production company Total Production so the capital letters were his gang’s initials Tree Top Piru.
  7. There was an expensive fight over the rights to his first album, despite being just a street hip-hop artist at the time. DJ Quik was the first artist to sign a 6-figure deal with Profile Records , but rapper Eazy-E also offered him more than $1 million for Ruthless Records .
