Dixie Carter was a celebrity in the United States because she starred in the series Chicas con clase , which was successful between 1986 and 1993. The actress died on April 10, 2010, at the age of 70. She had endometrial cancer.

Born on May 25, 1939, in McLemoresville, Tennessee, Dixie Virginia Carter dreamed of being an opera singer when she was very little. But at the age of 7 she had to undergo a tonsillectomy, which ended her sleep. She learned to play the piano and other instruments and graduated in English. After taking part in a play in her hometown, she moved to New York to take part in a production of “Winter’s Tale.”

She married businessman Arthur Carter in 1967, with whom she had two daughters, and took a hiatus in her career to dedicate herself to caring for them. She subsequently divorced her and married Broadway actor George Hearn . She is currently married to actor Hal Holbrook ( Into the Wild ).

Dixie Carter dedicated herself above all to the theater, and to television. In movies she occasionally appeared in a discreet title, like The Big Day or Going Berserk . On the small screen she succeeded as an independent southern woman, in the series Girls with class . She also found success with other series like Family Law . In 2007 she was nominated for an Emmy, as a supporting role, for the seven episodes of Desperate Housewives in which she played Gloria Hodge, Bree Van De Kamp’s mother-in-law, and mother of Kyle MacLachlan ‘s character , who hides a secret from the past.
