Story of Indian Wolf Boy, Dina Sanichar (real-life Mowgli)

Till date, you must have read stories like Wolf Man, Mowgli, etc. in books. Today I will tell you about a person who was neither human nor wolf. You may have already read about this before, yes! I am talking about Indian Wolf Boy Dina Sanichar. Dina was a creature that was counted neither in humans nor in animals.

Often referred to as the “real life Mowgli”, Dina Sanichar was first encountered in the year 1867, after a group of trackers spotted what was originally a wild creature dozing in the mouth of a place. collapsed in Bulandshahr, India.

When the men finally got the animal out of hiding, they were shocked to discover that it was actually a guy around 6 years old. The boy appeared to have been living in the wild for most of his life and supposedly made do by running across the ground with a pack of wolves.

The trackers brought the child to the Sikandra Mission Orphanage in Agra, where they took him in and named him Dina Sanichar. The masters went through the following for quite some time trying to restore the “Wolf Child”, but the years in the wild had caused significant damage.

Sanichar never knew how to talk about his passing in 1895, wanting to chew on bones and feast on the raw meat of animals instead of prepared food. Some have since proposed that his story may have awakened the untamed childhood character “Mowgli” in Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book stories.

What is Dina Sanichar’s name?

After being caught by the hunters, the wolf boy was immediately taken to an orphanage called “Sikandra Mission Orphanage” in Agra. After that, the caretaker for him from the orphanage washed him and put him in a separate room.

The name “Sanichar” comes from the Urdu word for “Saturday”; the name was given to him in the strategic place where he would be raised by his human wards. He was raised under the observation of his caretaker or his father “Erhardt”.
