Diane Cilento became an Oscar nominee. She was the wife of Sean Connery and playwright Anthony Shaffer. The Australian actress she died on October 6, 2011 in a hospital in Cairs, northeast Australia, at the age of 78, after suffering a long illness.

Born on October 5, 1933 in Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, Diane Cilento was the daughter of two distinguished physicians. When she was a teenager, she decided to pursue acting, and studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London.

He began his career in British cinema voicing a character in The Hidalgo of the Seas , and later in titles such as Voyage Back , by Roy Ward Baker , or the co-production with the United States Shadows of Suspicion (1961) , where he appeared alongside to Gary Cooper .

Her most prominent role was the beautiful gamekeeper’s daughter, who had an affair with the leading man in Tom Jones . For her work, she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In the 1980s, she retired from cinema, and dedicated herself to the Karnak Playhouse, an open-air theater that she herself ran in her hometown. Divorced from Andrea Volpe, she was together for many years with Sean Connery . She had the thorn in her that she was only known as the wife of the James Bond actor. “I’ve had a much more interesting and complicated life than that,” she told reporters when she presented her autobiography in 2006. She later also had a relationship with playwright Anthony Shaffer .

The actress leaves behind two children, Giovanna Volpe and Jason Connery .
