Early Life
Diana Krall was born on December 16, 1964, to Adella and Stephen James “Jim” Krall in Nanaimo, British Columbia. She was exposed to music at a very tender age and branched into jazz while she was still in high school.
At age 4, Krall started studying the piano and later took exams via the Royal Conservatory of Music. She grew up to love the piano while watching her father play at home; her mother equally sang in the community choir. While in high school, Krall joined a student jazz group and at the age of 15, she was already playing professionally in local restaurants.
She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston between 1981 and 1983. Her study at the college was on scholarship. In 1992, Krall returned to Canada to record her first album.
Career
During the course of her career as a jazz artist, Diana Krall has had eight albums topping the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart. She has equally won 3 Grammy awards and 8 Juno awards, among other honors. For her works, Krall has earned 7 multi-platinum albums, 3 platinum albums, and 9 gold albums.
However, all these started in 1992 when she recorded her first album- Stepping Out for Justin Time records which was released in 1993. The album eventually caught the attention of producer, Tommy LiPuma who produced her next album, Only Trust Your Heart which was released 2 years later in 1995.
