Diablo Cody is an American writer, director and producer who burst onto the Hollywood scene with her Oscar-winning screenplay for the feature film Juno. Since then her writing repertoire has included such films as Young Adult (2011), Ricki and the Flash (2015) and Tully (2018), all centered around female characters grappling with their personal struggles. Before becoming a writer, Cody worked for some time as a stripper in Minnesota and chronicled her experiences in her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper She has been married to Dan Maurio since 2009.

Based on her memoir Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper (2005) she moved to Minneapolis to move in with her boyfriend Jon, whom she affectionately referred to as Jonny. A pin-up girl’s prominent tattoo on her right arm read “Jonny’s Girl.” However, after the divorce in 2007, she replaced the lyrics with roses. But it seems the ex-couple have managed to remain friends even after marrying other people again.

  1. Brook adopted the alias Diablo Cody after listening to the Arcadia song El Diablo while driving through Cody in Wyoming. Diablo is a Spanish term for devil.
  2. After the marriage of her first husband, Jon Hunt, in 2004, the couple decided to separate last names. Diablo, using her real name at the time, was Brook Busey-Hunt and her husband became Jon Busey-Hunt.
  3. Before she made it big in Hollywood, she worked as a secretary and proofreader.
  4. Among her earliest writings was a parody blog entitled Red Secretary , which was about a secretary from Belarus. Written from the perspective of an Eastern Bloc girl challenged by the English language, the exploits mentioned in the blog were loosely based on her personal experiences.
