Sawa was born on September 7, 1978 , in Vancouver, British Columbia , Canada. He has an American nationality belonging to the white ethnic group. He is the son of Joyce Sawa (his mother) and Edward Sawa (his father).
His mother, Joyce, was a production coordinator. She has two older siblings, a brother named Brandon Sawa and a sister named Stephanie Sawa .
Sawa was interested in acting from his early days at school. He got his start in acting when he starred in a school play in kindergarten.
