Destiny Etiko was born in Udi, a village in Enugu state, Nigeria’s southeastern geographical region dominated by the Igbo people. She attended primary and secondary school in Enugu State, her hometown. This was where she earned her First School Leaving Certificate as well as her West African Senior School Certificate. Later on, Etiko moved to Anambra state in order to pursue a university degree. She applied to study Theater Arts at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. Fulfilling her desire, Destiny Etiko was accepted, admitted, and graduated with a degree in Theater Arts.

Destiny Etiko stated in an interview with Vanguard, a Nigerian newspaper, that after registering with the Actors Guild of Nigeria, she entered the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, in 2011. Then, she described her experience as difficult. This was because she had to balance her acting career with her school requirements because she was still a student at the time. Etiko rose to prominence after appearing in the film Idemili, produced by Ernest Obi in 2012 but was not released until 2014. Her performance in the film even went on to earn her a nomination for the City People Entertainment Awards in 2016. However, Etiko had previously appeared in other films, though not in prominent roles, prior to her role in Idemili.
