He worked as an editor on titles like “The Fugitive” and “The Hunt for Red October.” Two-time Oscar nominee Dennis Virkler died at age 80 of heart failure on September 15, 2022, his wife, Helen Pollak, announced. “Dennis arrived on a Saturday morning and blew us away on Monday with a great opening cut to the film,” Andrew Davis, director of “The Fugitive,” explained in a statement. “In addition, he advised the sound and visual effects teams who praised his taste and knowledge.”

Born in Cleveland on November 23, 1941, Dennis Virkler ‘s family  moved to Santa Monica when the boy was 4 years old. After finishing high school, he joined the Air Force, after which he got a job as a night guard at Fox Studios. He eventually enrolled in the Publishers Guild apprenticeship program. He began his activity as an assistant in action films in the 1970s, before being in charge of editing titles such as The Bad News Bears Go to Japan (1978), Xanadu  (1980), Land as You Can 2 (1982) and The River Rat ( 1984).

Dennis Virkler   earned his first Academy Award nomination with The Hunt for Red October (1990). He would get another with The Fugitive (1993), a film adaptation of the famous television series.

The publisher also delved into the superhero genre, with features such as Batman Forever (1995), Batman & Robin (1997), and Daredevil , a feature film starring Ben Affleck . Among his numerous works, titles such as The Chronicles of Riddick , Halloween stand out. The Origin (2007) and The Wolf Man (2010).

Dennis Virkler ‘s career   spanned five decades, until he retired in 2017 following the romantic drama The Ottoman Lieutenant , which included Josh Hartnett and Ben Kingsley among its cast.
