DeMarcus Ware is an American former professional soccer player who drafted him in the 2005 NFL Draft for his involvement with the Dallas Cowboys . As a child, Ware was always interested in sports and played football, basketball and baseball during his school years. During his college years, he honed his skills by focusing on the game and finished his collegiate career with 27.5 sacks, 201 tackles, 74 quarterback rushes, 10 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 1 interception. DeMarcus Ware became one of the NFL’s Most Valuable Players during his stint on the Dallas Cowboys team, for which he played a total of 9 seasons. DeMarcus Ware has maintained a remarkable physique even after leaving the game through his deliberate and carefully timed workout routines. His main focus during his training is building a stronger core that would help him in the long run.
The five main activities focused during his workouts are strength, core, ropes, cardio and flexibility. Throughout his career and even after his retirement, Ware made sure he worked his core to the best of his ability, as this, along with quick footwork, was key to better performance in the field.
He once said in an interview that –
I’m working on my core. IF YOU’RE A PASS RUSHER, YOU NEED TO HAVE A REALLY STRONG CORE. YOU CAN CONSTANTLY BE CAUGHT IN AWKWARD POSITIONS.
DeMarcus Ware was among the strongest players during his professional years, strengthening his core through drills like floorboards, wood chopping and chopping wood. Additionally, he said in an interview that he doesn’t use weight belts during workouts and instead aims to build the endurance required for the exercises without taking the help of weight belts.
In his younger years, Ware used to do 400-500 pound weight exercises, but over time he’s come to realize that mental strength and inner strength are the two most important things that can do wonders for the body, so he’s indulged in more Pilates, Squats, lunges, planks, high knees, push-ups, resistance band exercises, stretching, and martial arts. DeMarcus Ware believes that using heavy weights somehow tears up the body, while cardio helps build strength and endurance.
For nutrition, he brought a bagel with some sausage and strawberries before training. While working out, Ware drank a shake or anything else that helped keep his body hydrated. Post workout he had a protein shake, grilled chicken and pineapple. Then after an hour he ate some rice, fish, broccoli and vegetables followed by some snacks like an apple or some nuts. His daily diet totaled 5,000 calories.
