On May 10, 2006, Lovren made his debut for Dinamo Zagreb in a match against NK Varteks Varazdin.

1. Dejan represented Croatia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
2. Because of the Bosnian War, his family moved from Zenica to Munich when he was 3 years old.
3. During his stay in Munich, which 7 years later, Dejan learned to speak fluent German. Eventually, the Lovren family was forced to return to Croatia because they did not have the necessary documents to live in Germany.
4. He started his football career in youth teams NK Ilovac and NK Karlovac.
