In the wake of his recent clash with Tiwa Savage, here is a timeline of Davido’s beefs in the music industry.
Nigerian superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido is one of the biggest Afrobeats music stars in the continent, with numerous awards and records to his name. With five studio albums, one EP, and numerous singles, Davido has registered himself as one of the biggest musical artists to come out of the African continent. However, throughout his fulfilling career, Davido has had numerous feuds with several artistes and stakeholders in the Nigerian music industry. In the wake of his recent clash with fellow music star, Tiwa Savage, here is a timeline of Davido’s beefs in the Nigerian music industry.
Davido and Tiwa Savage scandal
A fresh beef has been revealed between Davido and Tiwa Savage. A leaked petition document was revealed online where Davido allegedly threatened her. According to reports, the beef was generated as a result of her sustained relationship with Davido’s baby mama, Sophie Momodu who had a short-lived relationship whom he had a child with.
In a filed petition against the 31 -31-year-old Superstar, Tiwa Savage urged the Lagos State Police Commissioner Fayoade Mustapha, to hold Davido accountable if any harm befalls her or her family as she accuses him of making a threat to her life and that of her family. She further revealed, that Davido has never been in support of the relationship she has with his baby mama , and each time she posted about Sophie, Davido was always displeased because of the issues he still had with the baby mama.
After receiving calls from mutual contacts about what happened between her and Davido, followed by threats from him. She felt the need to file a petition against him, which stated that Davido be held responsible, if anything happens to her. Following this event, there has been a buzz online as to why the two Afrobeats gurus unfollowed each other and some of the followers have speculated the probability of Tiwa’s friendship with Davido’s baby mama, Sophie.
Davido and Wizkid’s beef
Davido’s rivalry with Wizkid is one of the most iconic event that took place in the Nigerian music industry. According to reports, the duo had their first beef around 2013, but details of the events were unclear and were never fully revealed to the public.
Several years after, the two superstar, who dominated the Nigerian music soundscape had another rift as a result of their followers obsessive fan love, who through unwarranted comments make unnecessary comparison between the two.Following this,the duo also began to exchange bants and insults on X, ultimately resulting into a decade long rivalry.
However, Davido recently revealed in an interview on the Morning Show on Hot 97FM, New York that he and Wizkid’s rift had been for 12 years and that they only began talking after his son died. In the interview, he mentioned that ever since his child died,Wizkid called every week to check on him and therefore he is beginning to see positive changes in their relationship.
The clash between Davido and Burna boy
In 2020, the relationship between Davido and Burna Boy hit the rock where it was reported that Davido and Burna boy engaged in a fist fight at a Ghanian club.
An eyewitness stated, “The Twist bouncers forced Burna Boy and his guys out of the premises. Even when they were going, Burna Boy hit the club gate. Davido had to wait for about one hour thirty minutes before he moved out because of security reasons.”
Before this period, Davido had always supported and turned up for Burna although people speculated that Davido’s album ‘FEM’ which was released in 2o2o was to spite Burna. The brawl at the Ghanian club however was said to be a physical reaction to the beefs they had in mind.
Although, Davido has debunked this in his interview in New York stating that the fight was between their companions and not them personally. However, when he was being questioned about the fight between him and Burna, he said he was going to see that their previous relationship was restored and he acknowledged that Burna boy also reached out to him after his son’s death.
Davido and Cynthia Morgan’s clash
Around Q2 of 2020, Davido tweeted that Morgan should call him so they could have a collaboration which they never did. Cynthia Morgan in an interview said she knew the singer’s gesture was not genuine and it was just for clout. Despite her view, she followed up on the star regardless but after her calls and messages,she never got feedback.
In 2021, Morgan’s reaction to the gestures Davido’s fans,showed towards him for his birthday where the latter told her fans to send him money.
Davido said, “We rise by lifting others abi? Me I don dey rise dey lifting others for the past 100 years. So, I want to know who my friends are. All of my friends one one million Naira. They said we are 30BG. If you don’t send your own, you out of here. You are gone ”.
Afterwards,he mentioned that he had now gotten #155million.
Reacting to this, Morgan, took to her Instagram story and called out Davido’s fans, describing them as ignorant and unintelligent.
“I have always known Davido’s fans to be ignorant and unintelligent since 2016. So I am not surprised at your foolery. “If you have to compel people to celebrate you, it means there is nothing to be celebrated. If you rose by lifting others and you’re asking for 1 meter publicly then your boys are ungrateful. Make all of una lock up. Poor things.” she wrote.
Davido and Dammy Krane
Dammy Krane, in a post called out the music artiste, Davido over an unpaid debt by the singer. He claimed that Davido owed him for their successful collaboration on the song “Pere” and appealed to the musician to settle the debt as he had family issues to settle with the money.
In response to this allegation, Davido tweeted. He said; “I never got paid for that also my 3 verses I’ve gifted you all your dead career… .. oh yea plus my royalties, we charge now so that’s about $ 150k x3 a verse.. also house rent and food when u stayed in my house in’
Going through the musical journey in the life of the artiste, it is safe to say there have been rough patches.
