He was born in New York on November 2, 1966, although he grew up in Los Angeles, where he began training to be an actor. Since he was little, he already participated in his school’s plays, but it was in a summer camp that he offered at Northwestern University in Chicago where he really began to specialize. After graduating from Los Angeles High School, he returned to Northwestern with 7 friends he met that summer and together they founded “Lookingglass”, a theater company in Chicago.

In the TV miniseries, set in World War II and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks , Blood Brothers (2011), Schwimmer plays Captain Herbert Sobel. Thanks to this role he won the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Schwimmer has few leading roles: the independent film Duane Hopwood (2005), which chronicles the life of a divorced alcoholic father, and Big Nothing (2006), where he plays Charlie, an embittered and unemployed scientist. In 2012 he also starred in The Iceman , a drama about Richard Kuklinski, a family man who hides his true profession from his wife and daughters: a murderer. He has also been a voice actor in famous animated films: Madagascar (2005), Madagascar 2: Escape Africa (2008), Madagascar 3 (2012) and The Penguins of Madagascar (2013), in all of them voicing Melman the giraffe.
