  1. The prestigious Forbes magazine included him in their list of 13 African celebrities to be seen in 2013 in their December 2012 issue.
  2. He first had to read the script for the film Selma in July 2007. With the help of his wife, he taped four scenes and sent in his tape. However, Stephen Frears, the original director of the project, didn’t feel right for the role of Martin Luther King Jr.
  3. After Lee Daniels was named project lead, he called David for a new round of auditions. After being selected, Daniel’s name was removed from the project.
  4. He eventually worked with Lee Daniels in The Paper Boy (2011) and The Butler (2013).
  5. He had suggested eventual director Ava DuVernay’s name for Selma after she was impressed with her direction in an independent drama film, In the Middle of Nowhere.
  6. In August 2015, he was hired to narrate the audiobook version of the James Bond novel Trigger Mortis. The original book was written by Anthony Horowitz and commissioned by the Ian Fleming Estate.
