David Huddleston
He played the indebted billionaire referred to in the title “The Big Lebowski” in the hit film by the Coen brothers. David Huddleston died on August 2, 2016, at the age of 84 due to complications from kidney and heart problems, at his residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Born on September 17, 1930, in Vinton, Virginia, David William Huddleston briefly served as an officer in the Air Force, before raising the money to train as an actor. He got off to a rocky start, with tiny roles in titles like The Assassins Guild , a drama with Kirk Douglas . He was also a regular on 1970s series like Bonanza . In the hit Santa Claus the movie he played the endearing Christmas present delivery man, who gave his place to Dudley Moore .
But David Huddleston embodied his most remembered role in 1998, as The Big Lebowski was one of the greatest commercial successes of its directors. Subsequently, he only played very minor roles, such as a judge on The Producers . He made a career in the theater, eventually playing Benjamin Franklin in the Broadway musical “1776”, the role he was most proud of in his entire career. His wife, Sarah Koeppe, has released the news of his death.
