He produced the “Alien” saga, and various titles, and worked as a screenwriter on numerous occasions. Hollywood screenwriter and producer David Giler passed away on December 19, 2020, at the age of 77, at his home in Bangkok, as a result of cancer. “If you knew David, you knew he was special,” said Walter Hill, with whom he regularly collaborated. “The magic of his personality is hard to describe: funny, angry, extremely wise, extremely well-read. It was a privilege to write and produce with him, and most importantly, to have been close and deep friends for nearly fifty years.” .

Also born in the capital of Thailand, on January 10, 1943, David Kevin Giler  became a television writer at the age of 19. In 1970 he produced Myra Breckinridge , a controversial adaptation of Gore Vidal ‘s novel , which would become his lifelong friend.

He wrote the scripts for titles such as The Last Witness , The Black Hawk or This House is a Ruin . But he achieved enormous prestige as producer of Alien, the eighth passenger , in 1979. The director of the film, Ridley Scott , recalled in an interview that David Giler was the one who discovered the actress who would become the protagonist of the franchise. “Warren Beatty told him that he had to go to a theater on the off-Broadway circuit to see a performance by a young actress named Sigourney Weaver ,” the director recalled. “I stood there and was shocked to see that I was 6’2″. That dwarfed me,” Giler said.

He wrote the starting story for and produced Aliens, and also did the latter on Alien 3 , Alien vs. Predator , Prometheus , and Alien: Covenant . After the latter he withdrew from the cinema.
