He was one of the great figures of rock, a musical genre where he had an enormous influence. But she also stood out on the screen, in titles like “Inside the labyrinth.” David Bowie died on January 10, 2016 at the age of 69 as a result of cancer, a disease that he kept secret, so his disappearance shocked his followers. Three days before his death, he had released “Blackstar”, his twenty-fifth album.
David Robert Jones – his real name – was born on January 8, 1947 in Brixton, South London. As a child he already stood out in the school choir because of his voice. At the age of 15, a friend punched him in the eye during a fight over a girl, which left him with an abnormally dilated pupil, which gives the illusion that his visual organs are different colors, which it isn’t true.
Right after leaving school, he began his musical career, changing his last name to Bowie, in honor of the famous adventurer Jim Bowie, a hero who died defending himself from his enemies bedridden in the infirmary at the Alamo. He soon became popular for his theatrical and bizarre style, and for combining styles as diverse as pop, soul, glam and electronic music. He praised the album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars” from 1972, for which the character of Ziggy Stardust, his alter ego, was invented.
He already made his film debut before becoming a celebrity, as a soldier, an uncredited extra, in The Virgin Soldiers , from 1969. He played one of his most prominent roles in Tony Scott ‘s The Hunger , in which he was an ancient vampire who as he begins to age has to turn to a geriatrics expert. The same year, 1983, he also starred in Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence , where he played Major Jack ‘Strafer’ taken prisoner by the Japanese during World War II and sent to a concentration camp.
After one of the leading roles in the musical Beginners , he stood out as the goblin king in Jim Henson ‘s Inside the Labyrinth , where he kidnapped the brother of a young Jennifer Connelly . Later he lavished himself as a supporting role, many times embodying real characters, such as in The Last Temptation of Christ , where he was Pontius Pilate, Basquiat , where he became Andy Warhol , and The Final Trick (The Prestige) where he gave life to Nikola Tesla. In Zoolander he played himself, while David Lynch turned him into a surreal character inTwin Peaks, Fire Walk With Me .
After divorcing Angie Barnett, he joined the famous model Iman until her death. With his first, he was the father of Duncan Jones , director of titles such as Moon , who sadly announced the news of the death of his parent on Twitter.
