Dave Grohl is an American musical artist whose best credits include being the drummer for Nirvana from 1990 to 1994 and the founder, main songwriter, vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Foo Fighters since 1994. He is a multi-instrumentalist as well as a singer, songwriter, director and musician. Grohl served as an inspiration for future generations of artists to reinvent his music and craft over the decades. Known as “rock music’s nicest man”, he has been praised from all quarters for his genuine warmth and affection towards his fans.

After Grohl’s family moved to Springfield, Virginia, he attended Thomas Jefferson High School during his freshman year. He was elected vice president of his class, playing snippets of punk rock songs from Circle Jerks and Bad Brains before the school intercoms in the morning.
A year later, his mother got him admitted to Bishop Ireton High School when he started smoking cannabis. He repeated his freshman year, and after completing his sophomore year, he was again transferred to Annandale High School . At age 17, his junior year, he joined the hardcore punk band Scream as a drummer and decided to drop out of high school to tour with the band.

- He attended his first performance at the age of 2. He saw The Jackson 5 appearances at the Ohio State Fair.
- Grohl’s parents divorced when he was 7 years old and he was subsequently raised by his mother.
- During the summer holidays, he was introduced to punk rock by his cousin Tracy. His first punk rock concert was seeing Naked Raygun play at The Cubby Bear as a 13-year-old.
- He was convinced he was a musician after hearing The Edgar Winter Group ‘s instrumental song Frankenstein (1972).
- The very first instrument Grohl mastered was the trombone. At the age of 12 he taught himself to play the guitar. While attending high school, he learned to play drums by playing punk rock music and bands like Eileen .
- Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham was a big influence on Dave’s drumming style. He eventually got a tattoo of John’s three ring symbol on his wrist.
