His face was one of the most recognizable of the Italian ‘giallo’. The actress Daria Nicolodi died in Rome at the age of 70, on November 26, 2020. “She rests in peace, beloved mother,” declared her daughter, also actress Asia Argento. “Now you can fly free with your great spirit and you won’t have to suffer anymore. I will try to carry on for your loving grandchildren. I feel like I have lost my only true point of reference.”

Born in Florence on June 19, 1950, Daria Nicolodi was the daughter of a lawyer and a scholar of ancient languages ​​who moved to the Italian capital when she was ten years old. She studied acting there, at the National Academy of Dramatic Art. At twenty she made her debut as an actress in a television series that in the end was not broadcast due to its controversial content. However, this work of hers opened the doors of other productions, such as the miniseries I Nicotera. She made her big screen debut as the main female lead in Elio Petri ‘s Bitter Desire for Property .

Between 1971 and 1974, the interpreter was in a relationship with the sculptor Mario Ceroli, with whom she had a daughter, Ana. Unfortunately, she died in an accident in 1994, possibly the hardest blow in  Daria Nicolodi ‘s life. . 

In cinema, Daria Nicolodi  would succeed as the protagonist of Dark Red , one of the greatest hits of ‘giallo’, directed by Dario Argento , with whom she would maintain a long sentimental relationship, although she separated from him in 1985. With him she gave birth to their daughter, Asia Argento . An anecdote that, according to her, her grandmother had told her, about an academy run by witches, gave rise to Suspiria , co-written by her and Argento, and where she made a small cameo in the airport scene.

He would also shoot Inferno , Tenebre , Phenomena ,  The Phantom of the Opera , and  The Mother of Evil under his orders . He also participated in La secta , produced and co-written by Argento, and directed by his disciple Michele Soavi . He had retired after the 2007 miniseries  Il mostro di Firenze .
