Daniel Regha Slams GTBank, EFCC Over VeryDarkMan’s Mysterious Arrest

Popular online commentator, Daniel Regha, has publicly called out Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over their silence following the controversial arrest of social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM).

VDM was reportedly picked up by operatives shortly after visiting a GTBank branch, with unconfirmed reports linking the arrest to the EFCC. However, nearly 24 hours later, neither the bank nor the anti-graft agency has issued a formal statement, sparking widespread outrage online.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Regha wrote:

Neither GTBank nor the EFCC has released any statement regarding the reported arrest of VDM. They should address the situation.
Arresting someone is one thing, but the reported assault is another. Regardless of what he’s done, assault is something no one should stand for.
If he’s committed a punishable offense, follow due process and keep the public updated. This is ridiculous.”

The post quickly gained traction, with thousands of users echoing his concerns. Many accused Nigerian authorities of flouting due process and operating with impunity.

One user, @ThatCruiseMedic, wrote:

Nigerian authorities have no regard for the rule of law… Without an arrest warrant, you kidnapped someone and locked him up. No statement. Nothing.

Another, @emperorik4ever, suggested the move was retaliation:

So for asking for accountability over his money, they colluded with EFCC to get him arrested. GTBank has gone mute, ignoring the damage to their brand.”
