While working on the ranch, Haggerty became acquainted with a few movie producers and was quickly seen in movies as an animal handler. He, too, trained as a stuntman, earning the title of stuntman on the 1966 Tarzan television series.
Due to Haggerty’s working skills with animals and muscular build, he landed his first acting role as Although a non-speaking character in Muscular Beach Party and also appeared in Happy Girl in 1974.
Furthermore, he has also appeared in various biker movies like Easy Rider, Angels Die Hard and many more. He showed off his skills as an animal caretaker in the movie. When he blows the north wind , training white tigers, a wild boar and wolverines.
Haggerty then got the chance to play in the movie called The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams which became a huge box office hit, propelling him to stardom. After this movie, he appeared in several animal-friendly movies and reprized his role as Grizzly Adams in sequels like Grizzly Adams, Grizzly Mountain, and Escape to Grizzly Mountain.

Dan Haggerty was married twice. His first wife was Rooker Plate , he married when he was just 17 years old in 1959. Their marriage lasted 25 years. The couple share three children; a son named Don and two daughters named Tammy and Tracey.
He married Samantha Hilton the same year he finalized his divorce from Rooker. With his second wife, he had two sons named Cody and Dylan and a daughter named Megan.
On August 10, 2008, Haggerty lost his wife Samantha in a bicycle accident. Later, he never remarried, remaining single until his death.
Death
Haggerty was in a major accident in 1977, caught fire, as a result, he received third degree burns which he survived. Again in 1991, he suffered a terrible motorcycle accident due to which he fell into a coma. He needed 200 stitches to fix his forehead injury and broke his pelvis. He also survived that.
He struck death twice, but fell down with cancer. In August 2015, after undergoing back surgery, Haggerty was diagnosed with spinal cancer. In January 2016, he died of the disease in Burbank, California.
