Dakota Mayi Johnson was born on the 4th of October 1989 in Austin, Texas. As earlier stated, she is the daughter of the famous Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. Dakota Johnson was born into a family of stars and not just stars, but wealthy stars. This includes her maternal grandparents who were advertising executives and former Child actors; Peter Griffith and Tippi Hedren. She is also a niece to actress Tracy Griffith and production designer Clay A. Griffith.
Growing up, Dakota Johnson spent most of her childhood in different locations with her parents filming on sets and premieres. And as a teenager, she worked during summers at the local markets in Aspen and Wooden Creek, Colorado.
Dakota Johnson attended the Aspen Community School for a time, and then the Santa Catalina School in Monterey, California. Later on, she transferred to the private New Roads School in Santa Monica, California.
At age 12, Dakota Johnson took part in a photoshoot with other celebrities’ children for Teen Vogue and ever since, picked interest in modelling. She then furthered into modelling which helped her earn while in high school in Santa Monica.

In 1999, Dakota Johnson made her film debut in Crazy in Alabama where she alongside her half-sister, Stella Banderas acted as daughters to their mother, Melanie Griffith.
After high school, she took acting classes with teacher Tom Todoroff until 2008 when she signed with the William Morris Agency and started her acting career. She appeared in a minor role as Amelia Ritter in the hit film The Social Network (2010), directed by David Fincher.
