This list contains the top 10 countries where women outnumber men, without exception to some of the most popular countries in the world.
The world population is in a state of decline, though humans have never been as this populous on the earth with approximately 8 billion people in our world today from an estimated 2.5 billion people in 1950, adding 1 billion people since 2010 and 2 billion since 1998, and even with growth and decline there is disparity and imbalances between the sexes or genders with some genders making the most of the population of some countries in particular like the countries where women outnumber men.
While men dominate in some countries there are also a few countries where women outnumber men, and various factors are responsible for this disparity as also seen in cases where men dominate the population which can be war, genetics, culture, and socio-economic as well as migration, all this can be a reason why this disparity exists.
In this article, we will look at some of the countries where women are more than men and the reason for the population difference as well as what their gender population margin used to be before the big band disparity.
1. Armenia – 55.00%
Armenia is a country in the Asian continent, sitting in the Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. It is an ancient country with rich culture and also a former Soviet republic. Belarus is one of the countries in Europe having a population of women than men, with a total population of 9,340,314 people, men population accounts for about 46% which is 4,305,368 of the whole population while the female population is approximately 5,034,947 which is 53.9%. Well, one of the reasons why Belarus a country located in Eastern Europe along the border of former Nazi Germany is one of the poorest countries in Europe and this can all be traced to the impact of the second world war on this country with more than a quarter of the entire population of Belarus died during the fighting.

4. Ukraine – 53.71%

Although, before the Russian invasion, Ukraine’s gender gap places women at about 53.71%. Meanwhile, with the current state of Ukraine, as the war rages on and casualties continue to mount, the gap that exists between men and women will likely grow.
5. Latvia – 53.68%
Latvia is one of the three baltic countries in Europe, according to reports Latvia has the second-highest female-to-male ratio on Earth. With a population of 1,884,490 in 2021, the female population accounts for 1,011,596 which is about 53.7% while the male accounts for 872,894 which puts it at 46%. Latvia’s gender gap is due to the numerous health complications in men which are due to heavy drinking and smoking which has reduced the life expectancy in males and the higher tendencies suicide rate in males also contributed to this. Latvia is among the top countries that consume alcohol the most in the world.
6. Russia – 53.55%
The former Soviet republic is also among the countries where women outnumber men. Well, the reason why this is, is not too far-fetched is like their neighbor Ukraine, Russia suffered a huge loss in the world wars, especially during WW II with a bout 27 million loss in the population, this is one of the reasons but other reasons are the high consumption of alcohol in men just like Latvia and some other countries. Additionally, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, most men have fallen addicted to cigarettes or drinking which has aided the decline in the gender gap ratio, with males amounting to 46% of the 143,449,286 total population which put women at 76,824,577.
7. Lithuania – 53.07%
About 53.72% of the Lithuanian population was women in 2019. This totaled approximately 1,462,000 as of this time, and the men totaled 1,260,000. The total census was 2,722,000 by this time. By 2021, the male-to-female ratio totaled 86.18 to 100 females whereby putting the total population at this time to be 2,800,839 while women take 1,486,443 which accounts for 53.1 percent of the total population.
8. Georgia – 52.98%
Georgia is a country at the intersection of Europe and Asia, and it is also a former Soviet republic. The small nation has a population of 3,708,610 people with women taking most of that population which accounts for about 53.0% of the total making. 9. Zimbabwe – 52.83%
Zimbabwe is the only African country among the top countries where women outnumber men. The country has a population of approximately 15,993,524 people while women take up about 52.8% of the whole population which also amounts to 8,449,834 men’s population in Zimbabwe is 7,543,690 which is about 47%. Meanwhile, the impact of this result is seen in the politics of the country women occupy about 31.9% of seats in parliament as of 2021.
10. Portugal – 52.82%
Portugal’s population in 2021 was 10,325,147 with women having about 52.8% of the whole population which accounts for 5,453,881. The decline in the gender ratio is because the men emigrate to neighboring countries most especially Brazil to look for a better means of livelihood.
