Connie Nielsen was born in Elling, Frederikshavn, Denmark, on July 3, 1965. This versatile actress (sings, dances and speaks six languages) made her debut at just 15 years old in a Danish theater; she shortly after she moved to Paris and later to Milan. There we date her first appearance on the big screen with the Christmas comedy Vacanze di Natale ’91 .

After Gladiator , a film for which she received the Best Actress award at the British Empire Awards, came Portraits of an Obsession , by Mark Romanek , Demonlover , one of the favorites in the 2002 Cannes edition, and The Hunted (The dam ) . A year later she starred in Basic , alongside John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson .

In 2007, the director Susanne Bier premiered the drama Hermanos , a film that won Nielsen the Silver Shell in San Sebastián, the Special Jury Prize at the Indianapolis Festival and the Bodil Award in Copenhagen. Brothers is the only Danish film that this Copenhagen actress has starred in.

Nielsen affirms that she is more attracted to chaos than order and, as such, she declares herself an admirer of filmmakers such as Lars von Trier or Thomas Vinterberg , filmmakers framed in the Dogma 95 current, a movement with which she has not coincided in any film so far. .

Connie Nielsen has two children and is married to Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. They currently reside in New York.
